Other Garrett Gear: Garrett Performance TurbosPerformance turbocharger sizing, as well as charge air cooler (intercooler) sizing, will depend on the intended use for the given engine application. We highly recommend that you consult Turbotech staff for proper matching of your turbocharger and/or intercooler to your specific engine output requirements. Beyond the selection of the turbocharger intercooler there are many other engine system related factors to consider. Remember such details as correct fuel and spark management, proper engine and support system components selection (design and material), design integrity, intended use, all need to be made when planning out your turbocharged engine program. Most applications will more than likely require custom fabrication for proper installation. Garrett GT Small-Frame Performance TurbochargersThis series of GT turbochargers are engineered for small displacement engines between 45 hp and 225 hp with wide speed ranges of operation. The GT12 through GT25 turbochargers are designed primarily for gasoline and diesel passenger car engines.
Additional options beyond those shared with all GT Series turbochargers include such features as integral turbine housings and exhaust manifolds. DESCRIPTIONNew passenger car requirements are becoming more stringent in terms of cost, fuel consumption, emissions, and noise. Turbocargers can make a vital contribution to meeting these requirements through overall size and weight reduction, part count reduction, bearing configuration, reduced inertia, and improved aerodynamic performance. The new GarrettŪ GT12 turbocharger is the first product of a complete range of turbochargers designed specifically for passenger cars to meet or exceed the latest industry requirements. BENEFITS
FEATURESOnly 9 parts in center housing and rotating assembly vs 16 in a conventional turbocharger Reduced weight and inertia Smaller dimensions New bearing system with improved rotordynamic behavior. OPTIONSV-band turbine housing attachment Integral manifold turbine housing VNT turbine flow control Wastegate Water or air-cooled bearing housing High temperature capability.
Garrett GT Mid-Frame Performance TurbochargersThe medium-frame GT Series of turbochargers are designed for commercial diesel engines application rated from 200 hp to 650 hp applications. The Garrett GT30 through GT45 turbochargers are typically installed on engines used in On and Off highway vehicles, farming, construction equipment, marine and stationary applications.
They incorporate all the standard design features and options along with the availability of dual turbine by-pass valves.
Garrett Large-Frame Performance TurbochargersIncorporating an upgraded bearing system design for maximum durability with large rotating assemblies, the TV75 through GT60 turbochargers are custom matched for large commercial applications with engines rated from 550 hp to 1000 hp. Used in multiples, they will cost effectively support engine ratings as high as 4000 hp. This frame size includes options for maximum efficiency at ultra high pressure ratios and high temperature operations.
Additional features beyond the standard GT options include: center housing mount and water cooled turbine housings.
GT Series Performance Turbochargers - BackgroundThe GT Series Ball Bearing Turbocharger is one of AlliedSignal's latest development in performance turbocharger technology. The Garrett "full cartridge" dual ball bearing systems have been qualified in various OEM production based programs. The same ball bearing system's durability and reliability has been well proven in winning Indy 500 race cars and in grueling 24 hour endurance races. Presently the GT Series are available to the aftermarket in limited production GT25 and GT30 designs. A selection of GT Series CHRA and complete assemblies have been designed for aftermarket performance program development. VNT TechnologyBACKGROUNDThe worldwide drive for improved fuel efficiency combined with new emissions requirements will continue to spur rapid, global growth of turbochargers. To support customers' needs, AlliedSignal recently began full-scale production of the GarrettŪ VNT series of variable geometry turbochargers which will allow vehicle manufacturers to use smaller displacement engines without sacrificing performance. AlliedSignal's new GarrettŪ turbocharger designs and system improvements raise the driveability characteristics of turbocharged diesel engines to those of large, naturally aspirated gasoline engines, while providing reductions in overall emissions. ADVANTAGES OF THE VNT TURBOCHARGER
MULTIVANE VNT TURBOCHARGERThe Multivane VNT Turbocharger uses vacuum actuator to adjust the vaned nozzle. The vanes steer the speed characteristic (angle and velocity) of the incoming exhaust gas toward the turbine wheel. The boost can then be controlled from 1.0 bar to 2.0 bar absolute. The variable turbine intake geometry only raises boost pressure if it is required for high torque. SLIDEVANE VNT TURBOCHARGERAlliedSignal Turbocharging Systems is developing a new configuration VNT turbocharger. Initially targetted for diesel engine passenger car use, the new VNT Turbo is designed for market applications in the 1.6-3.0 liter engine displacement class. This new design, the GarrettŪ Slidevane VNT turbocharger offers the market a product with all the advantages of Multivane VNT turbo performance from a simple, rugged and lower-cost package. |
